Drone Application and Research Center (DARC):

Drone Application and Research Center (DARC) is a joint initiative of Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA), Govt. of Uttarakhand and National Technical Research Organization (NTRO).

The center has been raised with the intent to promote and nurture research and development in the field of drone technology. DARC provides a platform where experts in drone technology can share their knowledge and skill on design, utilization and applications of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Its objective is to help government officials, on field officers, individuals and organizations understand the revolutionary benefits of UAV technology, and gain the skills to implement drone (UAV) technology safely and effectively in their workplaces and wider enterprises. DARC will render help/assist the users to make informed decisions about drone challenges and thus lead to the cost effective management of drone integration and adoption

On Going Projects:

  • Jamrani Dam
  • The objective of this project is to map 30 sq.km area in Nainital district of nearby villages affected by Jamrani Dam. 6 Villages of upstream will be submerged due to creation of reservoir and 9 villages of downstream will be partially affected due to the project. The project aims at providing high resolution Orthomosaic, aerial videography and digitized CAD plans.

  • Drone Mapper
  • DARC Mapper Software is an in-house developed GIS Software to generate maps, point clouds, DEMs, plant health and 3D models from aerial images. DARC Mapper has a friendly user interface that includes a map viewer, a 3D viewer, user logins, a plugin system and many other features that are expected of modern drone mapping platforms.

    DRONE Park

The Govt. of Uttarakhand is in the process of establishing a drone ecosystem in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The prime objective is to become one of India’s leading Unmanned Aircraft Systems test and business centres with extensive testing possibilities and an ecosystem of research, startups and corporations. It aims to create a unique ecosystem, infrastructure and services to facilitate research, innovation, manufacturing and entrepreneurship in the aerospace and UAV market. Drone Application and Research Centre is developing a master plan for take off & landing area, drone manufacturing and drone software clusters along with establishment of UAS airworthiness test facility for drone safety, durability and security. This facility will cater to the needs of drone manufacturing/assembling unit, application software development, service providers, training and capacity building, applied research and development, drone components manufacturing and assembling, counter drones, BVLOS tests, financial services and other logistics with following benefits for hassle free set up and operations in State:

    • Subsidized land
    • Online single window systems for all required approvals
    • Pay and use testing facility
    • Single point clearances
